    Maserati Celebrates Record-Breaking MC12 Auction

Maserati is still riding a major Car Week high.

Despite Monterey Car Week being a few weeks behind us this year, the hype still hasn’t died down for some of the most exciting cars that were on display and present at the events. Maserati, enjoying both a rich history and cherished heritage of Italian luxury performance vehicles and a current lineup that displays luxury, performance, innovation, and stunning design all at once, had an impressive presence at this year’s Monterey Car Week, displaying its newest creations, and having an ultra-rare example of one of its greatest supercars sell at auction.

That is, of course, the MC12 Stradale, one of only 50 cars like it, and the inspiration behind the Maserati MC20 that has since spurred on a completely new era of Maserati performance and racing. One of the 25 2005 Maserati MC12 Stradale cars in existence (25 were made for the 2004 model year) crossed the block at this year’s Broad Arrow Monterey Jet Center Auction, and it sold for an eye-watering $5.2 million.

Among many records that were celebrated at Monterey Car Week, that price makes that MC12 Stradale not only the new record holder for the model by a 37 percent increase, but it also makes the car the most expensive modern Maserati ever sold. The record-breaking sale marked the importance of the MC12 not only in Maserati’s own history, but also in automotive history as a whole, as the ultra-rare supercar is a celebration of a nostalgic era of motorsport excellence and uncompromising performance engineering with a V12 powertrain.
