The New Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung Is The Second Mythos Model

By Tyler Rampersaud –  September 10, 2026

The New Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung Is The Second Mythos Model

Years ago, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would eventually introduce the “Mythos” series, a lineup of limited-production, collector-grade vehicles that add new height to the luxury and exclusivity in the Mercedes-Benz portfolio. After a long period of anticipation, the first Mythos model to emerge was the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, a roofless barchetta with immense power and racing-inspired design. Now, another Mythos model has emerged, and it’s based on the Mercedes-Benz CLE coupe. This past January, the model was shown in winter testing in Sweden as a lightweight variant of the CLE with more aggressive aerodynamics, and now the new Mythos model has been fully revealed as the new Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung. Based on the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53, the new Mythos creation is transformed by much more than its mouthful of a name. Rather, it features a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, rear-wheel drive, a widebody makeover, weight reduction, aggressive aerodynamics, a new suspension, and more. With 637 horsepower on tap and 627 lb/ft of torque, the new CLE 646 promises a thrilling and purist-focused driving experience, sending that non-hybridized V8 power purely to the rear wheels. <- Gallery -> In addition to its immense power, the CLE 646 features roughly 375 pounds of weight savings compared to a Mercedes-AMG CLE 53, as well as a purpose-built coilover suspension developed by Mercedes-AMG and KW automotive, an AMG Ceramic High-Performance Composite Braking System designed to handle track performance, carbon fiber aerodynamic components including a prominent fixed rear wing, and a transmission designed to deliver both smooth and engaging shifts. Accelerating from 0-60 in under 3.9 seconds, the new CLE 646 will eventually reach a top speed of 193 mph. The interior of the new Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung also features a lightweight, motorsport-focused design. There are no rear seats; sound insulation has been removed, while racing-ready bucket seats and carbon fiber door panels offer a racing-inspired look and readiness. Ahead of the model’s full reveal, all 30 examples of the new CLE 646 have been sold. Handcrafted in Affalterbach from the CLE 53, the new Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung is the next chapter of the anticipated Mythos series. Mercedes-AMG Remains Official Automotive Partner Of Nürburgring

It’s where records are broken, dreams come to fruition or are shattered, and where legacies are forged for drivers, manufacturers, and cars alike. The Nürburgring is one of the world’s most daunting racing venues, with its incredibly long Nordschleife layout, dramatic elevation changes, and a forested setting. Nicknamed the “Green Hell” for how challenging it is, the Nürburgring has become a measuring stick for performance at the highest echelon of the automotive industry, and its official automotive partner is Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. That partnership has just been extended, with Mercedes-AMG remaining the Official Automotive Partner of the legendary track. Originally minted in 2017, the partnership is a reaffirmation of the shared history between Mercedes-Benz and the Nürburgring that stretches back nearly a century. With the partnership’s extension, Mercedes-AMG will continue to have a prominent brand presence at the Nürburgring, including at the iconic Carousel corner, and, in addition, naming rights to the AMG Arena and the AMG Grandstand on the Grand Prix circuit will also remain. The AMG VIP Lounge will also continue as a part of the partnership. <- Gallery -> The very first race held at the Nürburgring, which took place in 1927, was won by a Mercedes-Benz, specifically by Rudolf Caracciola. More recently, Mercedes-AMG Motorsport celebrated an overall victory at this past May’s ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring, with the Mercedes-AMG Team RAVENOL and drivers Maro Engel, Maxime Martin, Fabian Schiller, and Luca Stolz. Outside of competition, the Nürburgring has been an important venue for testing Mercedes-AMG road cars, providing a respectable gauntlet for all standards of automotive performance. New Electric Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe Unveiled

By Tyler Rampersaud –  August 06, 2026

New Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe Revealed

A new chapter opened for AMG when the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe was unveiled, introducing a new AMG-exclusive electric model that brought with it axial flux motor technology and the fruition of a new AMG.EA architecture. Its flagship variant, the GT 63, features a massive 1,153 horsepower, utilizing cutting-edge EV engineering and tech to deliver its uncanny performance. A new variant is coming to the lineup, however, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe, and while it’s more modest than the other two, it still packs a serious performance punch. The new GT model features dual-motor all-wheel drive, with two permanently excited synchronous electric motors that together contribute 536 horsepower of peak output, with 362 horsepower of continuous output and 590 lb/ft of torque. With that power capable from the motors, and a Formula 1-based, 106-kWh, AMG performance battery with 800-volt technology at its heart, the new GT 53 4-Door Coupe’s 0-60 time is only 3.4 seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited to 143 mph. That battery, along with a two-speed transmission that combines acceleration and efficiency, helps the new Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe achieve an estimated range near 500 miles. Bridging the gap between the new cohort of electric performance vehicles and their combustion-powered predecessors, the GT 53, like its GT 55 and GT 63 siblings, offers an AMGFORCE Sport+ driving mode, which simulates the sound of a six-cylinder engine and gear changes through paddles. The sound aims to authentically emulate the 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine in the previous Mercedes-AMG E 53 coupe. <- Gallery -> Redefining grand touring for the electric age, the new GT 53 features an AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with air springs and adaptive damping to switch from relaxed cruising to a sporty, precise character in three stages: Comfort, Sport, and Sport+. AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive also means that the new four-door grand tourer provides confidence, engagement, and versatility with torque vectoring and decoupled electric motors. Like its counterparts, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4 Door Coupe features AEROKINETICS active aerodynamics that control airflow around the vehicle for optimal speed and control, including an active rear wing, which is standard, and an optional rear diffuser. A new performance-dedicated EV in the rapidly transforming AMG lineup, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe is yet another example of the cutting-edge technology that is transforming AMG’s approach to performance. While it might not be as powerful as the GT 55 and the GT 63, the GT 53 still packs a serious punch and is setting new standards for luxury electric grand tourers. The New Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 Is The Fastest In Its Class At The Nürburgring

By Tyler Rampersaud –  August 04, 2026

The New Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 Sets A Nürburgring Record

While it isn’t destined for the States, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a new AMG model at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed: the new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45. Based on the new CLA, which introduced cutting-edge technology and an all-electric powertrain to the celebrated luxury compact nameplate, the CLA 45 features three axial flux motors, like the new all-electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. It’s only the second fully electric production vehicle to feature that technology, the first being the GT, and with two motors at the rear and one at the front, the new CLA 45 boasts a massive 680 horsepower, with the ability to get from 0-60 in just 2.7 seconds. As a compact car, its immense power makes it unlike anything else in its segment, and that incredible performance has now been proven on one of the world’s most revered racing venues. That is, of course, the Nürburgring Nordschleife, nicknamed the “Green Hell” for its forest surroundings, its challenging corners, and its dramatic elevation changes. The track puts the world’s best and fastest cars, drivers, manufacturers, and engineers alike to the test, and a lap time on the Nordschleife is not only a measure of driving talent but also of a vehicle’s performance. <- Gallery -> The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 managed to lap the Nordschleife in 7:32.070, making it the fastest car in its segment to lap the track. Taking full advantage of its all-wheel drive system and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires, the summer conditions proved ideal for the new performance electric AMG to prove its abilities on its first attempt. With immense electric performance in a small footprint and cutting-edge technology to make it use its power as efficiently as possible, the new CLA 45 and its Nürburgring record open a new chapter for AMG’s approach to luxury performance engineering. Mercedes Drops Another Teaser of the Upcoming G-Class Cabriolet

By Khris Bharath –  July 24, 2026

Mercedes Drops Another Teaser of the Upcoming G-Class Cabriolet

Mercedes-Benz has posted a teaser showing a fabric roof folding away on a G-Class, accompanied by the caption, "unfolding a new chapter for the G-Class." Little else is visible beyond the rear-mounted spare wheel and what appear to be low-profile tires. The most revealing clue is that both Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG are tagged in the post, suggesting the open-top G-Class could launch with performance variants from the outset. Mercedes first confirmed the open-top W465 in September last year, with a shadowy silhouette teaser announcing that a new G-Class Cabriolet was in development. We reported on camouflaged pre-production prototypes undergoing testing in December last year. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mercedes-Benz G-Class (@mercedesbenzgclass)   Built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, since 1979, the G-Class or Geländewagen began life as a military off-roader before evolving into one of the world's most recognizable luxury SUVs. Civilian versions turned it into a cult luxury object favored by celebrities and royalty, while the hardware stayed serious: three locking differentials, short overhangs, and eventually AMG power with SLR-style side-exit exhausts. The open-top format is not new to the G-Class. Cabriolet versions have existed since the earliest days of the model line, including on utilitarian trims, but factory convertibles have always represented a tiny fraction of overall G-Class production.  The best-known example, the G500 Cabriolet, was offered exclusively as a short-wheelbase two-door between 1999 and 2013 and was never officially sold in the United States. Production ended with the W463 Final Edition, a run of 200 examples that sold out before making its public debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.  The 2017 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet took a different approach entirely, pairing a V12 and portal axles with a partial folding roof over the rear compartment only. Limited to 99 units, two examples have crossed the digital auction block on duPont REGISTRY Live over the past year. Reports for now all point to a four-door layout on the upcoming model based on the W465 platform, which is a departure from the short-wheelbase two-door tradition. That original two-door open-top bodystyle has since become one of the most desirable configurations.  The restomod world too has embraced the format, as highlighted in our list of some of the best Mercedes G-Wagens for sale today. Expedition Motor Company, Refined Marques, Mansory, and G Cabrio all build interpretations of it. Brabus and Mansory have both gone further, producing four-door cabriolets on the current W465 platform. We  Series production is reportedly scheduled to begin during the third quarter of 2027 ahead of a 2028 model year launch, with a Mercedes-AMG G63 Cabriolet expected to headline the range. Update: Mercedes has since put out one more clip earlier today, revealing a near-production-ready prototype with camouflage only on select bits of the bodywork.  View All Mercedes-Benz G-Class For Sale View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mercedes-Benz G-Class (@mercedesbenzgclass)     Images: Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-AMG Unveils The New 2027 GLE 63 S & The New GLS 63

By Tyler Rampersaud –  June 15, 2026

New 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S & GLS 63 Revealed

AMG has become synonymous with a signature combination of automotive luxury and performance, and some of the most popular creations from the performance arm of Mercedes-Benz are SUVs. The Mercedes-AMG SUV lineup consists of several models, ranging from compact, nimble vehicles to larger, V8-powered icons, and two popular Mercedes-AMG nameplates have returned, with a revised powertrain and several other tweaks throughout. Those are the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S and the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63. Updated for the 2027 model year, the iconic GLE and the large, sumptuous GLS have both been given the latest iterations of an AMG makeover, with a revised powertrain under the hood. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that lies at the heart of both models is the M177 EVO, which features a new flat-plane crankshaft, reducing rotating mass, allowing the engine to rev more easily, ensuring precise response, and laying the groundwork for a new generation of V8 engines that improves both power and efficiency. In both vehicles, the engine musters 603 horsepower and 627 lb/ft of torque, and it also uses mild hybrid technology to provide an assisting 23 horsepower and 151 lb/ft of torque, contributing to the engine’s total power and torque numbers. With that power, the GLE 63 S is able to get from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, while the GLS 63 manages to make it from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Both vehicles have an electronically limited top speed of 174 mph. While your foot is on the pedal, the sound experience of the engine is enhanced and adaptable thanks to an AMG Performance exhaust system with configurable valves. <- Gallery -> The front ends of both vehicles have been redesigned to evolve their aggressive, performance-oriented design, and other design tweaks include a unique selection of 22 and 23-inch wheels,  and Nappa leather interiors including in unique colors like MANUFAKTUR Yacht Blue. MANUFAKTUR also offers various striking paint color options for the latest AMG models, which can be paired with the AMG Night Package for added flair in the exterior design. Also contributing to the performance of the latest Mercedes-AMG SUVs is AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension, which comes as standard and adjusts ride height for off-road driving, as well as for performance at higher speeds, and it teams up with active roll stabilization to inspire confidence and ensure precise handling. A locking rear differential works to improve the agility, turning two celebrated SUV models into supercar-like performers, and with AMG DYNAMIC SELECT, available with the push of a button, drivers can access several programs that adapt the car to a wide variety of situations. Modes include Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Trail, Slippery, and an Individual mode that can be customized by the driver. With an updated approach to its design, a revised V8 engine, and personalization-focused luxury, the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S and GLS 63 are two new performance luxury SUV icons with cherished nameplates. First Look: Inside Mercedes-AMG’s Glitzy LA Reveal of New Electric GT

By Michael Van Runkle –  May 20, 2026

First Look: Inside Mercedes-AMG’s Glitzy LA Reveal of New Electric GT

Mercedes-Benz and AMG shut down the entire Sixth Street Bridge in Los Angeles last night to unveil its new GT 4-Door Coupe. A massive party chock-full of A-list celebs (including Brad Pitt, Jacob Elordi, Kevin Hart, Diplo) and Formula 1 personalities (including George Russell), plus a rock performance by Blink 182, gathered to witness a major step forward into the electric era, as Mercedes-AMG abandons the V8 engine in favor of a fully electric powertrain. The new GT puts down huge power figures in order to compete with Tesla’s Plaid, the Lucid Air Sapphire, Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, and Audi RS e-tron GT. And a new design language reveals just how much of a transformational moment this car represents for Mercedes. In person, the styling is not quite recognizable as such, however. Hence all the badging and tri-star light signatures that clearly hark to the brand heritage. Essentially a production version of the record-breaking Concept AMG GT XX, which set multiple speed and distance marks on the way to driving 24,901 miles in 7 days and 13 hours, the final production form looks smoother and less bloated than previous EVs from Mercedes over the past few years. It’s certainly a far cry from the svelte exterior of the internal-combustion SL and GT two doors, though, arguably a pair of the most stunning automotive designs of the past decade-plus. The large intake scoop up front gives way to headlights that rake sharply back toward the low windshield and flowing roofline. Unlike the concept car, this production version gets a true rear window before the hindquarters chop off in what’s known as a “kammtail” in automotive parlance. That nearly vertical rear panel seems counterintuitive, but actually works well for aerodynamic efficiency that EVs require to achieve efficient range estimates. A closer look at the details can reveal sharper edges than expected between all the smooth body panels. And the side skirts pinch inward a fair amount more than photographs tend to portray. The whole car rides lower and longer than expected, too, which exudes more of a performance aesthetic – especially when compared to the upright EQS sedan and even the outgoing internal-combustion GT. The new EV rides on a skateboard battery platform, with a central spine that holds larger electric powertrain components and allows for improved interior ergonomics. The cockpit leans into tech in a big way, given the all-electric propulsion. Expect all the screens, as typical of Mercedes lately, plus all the individually tailored drive modes. The glass roof – no solid roof will come to the USA – can switch from opaque to transparent at the touch of a button, while also transforming into a twinkling light display at nighttime. Even if the event itself turned into a Hollywood soiree as much as an automotive debut, Mercedes still shared tons of details to nerd out on. This first true AMG electric explains why Mercedes acquired the British firm YASA in 2021, to source axial-flux motors that promise better packaging, serious weight savings, and more power than the typical radial-flux motors (the main difference being which way the power circles the output shaft). Every GT will employ three axial-flux motors, but in a carryover from the V8 days, AMG will produce at least two versions to start: a 55 and a 63. The GT 55 receives ratings of 805 horsepower and 1,328 lb-ft of torque, while the 63 steps up to 1,153 hp and 1,328 lb-ft. Thanks to all-wheel traction created by mounting dual motors at the rear with one at the front, the 63 should manage a 0-60 time of 2.0 seconds and a 0-124 time of 6.4 seconds, all on the way to an electronically limited top speed of 186 miles per hour (when equipped with the optional AMG Performance Package). Of course, range matters just as much as gobstopping acceleration stats for any EV, and the GT’s F1-derived batteries should also keep up with the competition quite easily. The EPA has not yet rated either variant, but on the WLTP protocol, the GT 63 managed 474 miles while the 55 added a handful more. That should translate to about 10 or 20% less in the more stringent EPA figures, but still likely above 400 miles or so for both models. Active aerodynamics up front, underneath, and at the tail help with the range figures, and Mercedes also promises borderline unbelievable charge times. Topping up from 10-80% takes as little as 11 minutes, while a quick five-minute charge can add up to 168 miles of range. That is, however, provided that any charging station in the United States can actually max out the GT’s 600-kW charge capability—unlikely, given that Mercedes decided to commit to NACS port only, for easier access to the Tesla Supercharger network. In order to split the gap between track star and grand tourer, for an EV that weighs just over 5,400 pounds, Mercedes employs active air suspension on both the 55 and 63 variants. The 63 also comes standard with a hydraulic roll control system – which might work great in lightweight McLarens but often poses challenges for larger, heavier vehicles. In fairness, past hybrid “AMG E-Performance” models managed to mask enormous masses relatively well, and the GT should if anything allow for optimized weight distribution thanks to the skateboard battery layout and YASA electric motors. Whether this means that AMG will fully abandon either internal-combustion or hybrid GT variants in the future, Mercedes declined to comment. Other than to reveal that a Euro 7 emissions-compliant inline-six and V8 are already under development, which perhaps suggests that the success of this fully electric variant may affect future plans. The new powertrain does feature fake engine noises and gearshifts, in similar fashion as the Hyundai Ioniq 5N. As befitting a luxury EV, those noises can turn off to emphasize the serenity that Mercedes has long been so well-known for. By now, there’s no doubt remaining that electric power works well for luxury vehicles, but AMG aims to prove that a big, heavy EV from a legacy automaker can vault up into the ranks of serious performance cars, as well.
