Porsche Cayenne Electric Achieves Unique Feat With World’s Largest Aircraft

The most powerful production Porsche yet meets Roc, the world’s largest aircraft, in a test of precision.

Roc is the world’s largest aircraft, with a wingspan of 385 feet and 340,500 pounds of thrust. Designed as a launch platform for spacecraft and hypersonic testing, Roc creates an intense storm of jet blast when it takes off and lands.

However, there is one exception to that: a bubble that exists behind the landing gear and in front of the tail that is the proverbial eye of the storm during Roc’s takeoff and landing. Stratolaunch engineers determined that a powerful enough car could drive underneath the car as it took off and landed, as long as it remained precisely and consistently in the right position the whole time.

A vehicle that was up to the task is the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric, the all-electric flagship reimagination of Porsche’s legendary SUV, and the most powerful production Porsche model yet. With 1,139 horsepower on tap and the ability to exceed 160 mph, it was the perfect candidate for the unique and challenging task. With a prototype in the Mojave, legendary former Porsche factory team driver and endurance racer Patrick Long took on the challenge.

As the plane was taking off with the power of its six engines, Long put the impressive acceleration ability of the Cayenne Turbo Electric to the test. The vehicle’s Boost mode helped as Roc finally lifted off. However, it wasn’t over, as Long was able to replicate the same success by driving under Roc as it landed, completing two takeoffs and landings in total to complete the unique quest.

With incredible power and impressive control of its power and cutting-edge technology, the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric is showcasing the pinnacle of electric vehicle innovation in an eye-catching way by meeting the world’s largest aircraft.
