Legendary German car manufacturer RUF Automobile and Motul, the French leader in high-performance lubricants, have introduced a bespoke co-branded product crafted for automotive purists: the RUF x Motul Heritage Motor Oil 20W-50.
Unveiled at the 2026 Goodwood Revival in England alongside RUF’s original Porsche 356, the mineral multigrade lubricant was developed through close technical collaboration specifically for classic air-cooled engines from the 1950s to the 1970s.
As collector interest in analogue vehicles and classic-car restoration expands, enthusiasts and specialist workshops require authentic solutions to maintain historically significant engines. With vintage automobiles returning to RUF’s workshop for restorations, repairs, and upgrades, the companies created a dedicated formula tailored to period operating realities rather than relying on modern, standard formulations.
The product stems from a technical partnership formed in 2020 when Motul became RUF’s official lubricant partner. Motul’s engineering data has supported notable RUF models, including the SCR, CTR Anniversary, RODEO, EHRA, and the air-cooled TRIBUTE.

Formulated for naturally aspirated, turbocharged, or supercharged engines with carburetors or fuel injection, the 20W-50 oil features a medium detergent level compatible with period elastomer gaskets, provides controlled oil consumption, and offers strong oil-film resistance to protect components during cold starts and extended storage.
“From our first boxer-eight engine in the B8 prototype, to our collaboration with HIF and its alternative e-fuels, and now to our Motul Heritage Motor Oil, this year has been an incredible one for our company,” said Alois Ruf, owner of RUF Automobile. “We at RUF have an immense passion for the internal combustion engine and take pride in fine-tuning and future-proofing it the best we can. We could not be more thrilled to work with Motul on this classic motor oil, as it has been a fantastic partner to us in developing our new-generation engines. We are excited to give classic air-cooled engines the very best lubricant to help them stand the test of time.”
“At Motul, we believe automotive heritage deserves to be preserved and transmitted,” said Andreea Culcea, Chief Brand, People & Communications at Motul. “It is this belief that makes our partnership with RUF such a natural fit. Our companies are united by generations of automotive passion, technical expertise and a commitment to lasting performance. Together, we help owners preserve the authenticity, performance and character of their collectible vehicles, so they can continue to enjoy them on the road and share that passion on to future generations.”
Available in early October 2026 exclusively through shop.ruf-automobile.de, the oil is presented in a co-designed 2-liter (2.11 US quart) heritage metal canister.
