Introduced in 2021, the Manufaktur program allowed Mercedes-Benz customers to further customize the brand’s most expensive models. Today the carmaker announced it plans to expand the program to new models while offering more options than ever. It doesn’t just stop at leather finishes or custom stitchwork either. The marque is looking to implement AI technology and clever UI design to customize the vehicle’s hardware and software.

By expanding its Manufaktur program, Mercedes-Benz aims to offer levels of customization typically reserved for brands like Bentley and Rolls-Royce. As such, customers can now option Manufaktur with exclusive leather finishes, custom seat stitching, and bespoke embossed details throughout the cabin. Part of the stitchwork found on elements like its seats and door cards is done by hand.
On the vehicle’s exterior, customers will have up to 30 Manufaktur-exclusive paint shades to choose from, while the Maybach S-Class also adds unique two-tone finishes. As the S680 pictured above showcases, Mercedes-Benz is pushing its customization options further with different colors for its trim and special touches to the vehicle’s lighting elements.

As part of the program’s future, Mercedes-Benz plans to offer UI customization options such as unique infotainment color schemes to match the vehicle’s configuration. These could include specific images or emblems, such as a family crest, which could be customized to showcase across the vehicle’s MBUX infotainment system.
During a recent trip to the brand’s Advanced Design Studio in Carlsbad, CA, it mentioned ideas of utilizing AI to scan physical objects so they can be reflected within the cabin’s UI. The example used was that of a handbag. Once inside, the system scans the bag and adopts a similar color scheme. For now, the automaker is still exploring ways to implement this tech for even more profound levels of customization.
As part of this latest expansion, the Manufaktur is now available for the GT 4-Door, SL, EQS, S-Class, and G-Class. As part of these model lines, all Maybach and AMG variants are also eligible for the program.
