The performance version of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class just got more serious than ever.
While it’s always been a desirable, luxurious, and powerful luxury performance car, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE completely changes its approach to performance with a new powertrain that uses half as many cylinders but produces more power than the model has ever seen before. The new car retires the predecessor’s twin-turbocharged V8 engine and instead opts for a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with electric motors for a hybrid setup, but by no means is that 4-cylinder engine sluggish.
Good for as much as 476 horsepower on its own, the longitudinally-installed engine is a version of the famous M139 four-cylinder engine that yet again reaffirms its title as the world’s most powerful 4-cylinder engine in a roadgoing production car with an incredible 238 horsepower per liter. Of course, this incredible number comes even before the electric system is accounted for.

The electric motor at the rear axle is capable of 204 horsepower, and with an electrically-shifted two-speed gearbox it joins with the engine to create what is known as a P3 hybrid system. With a total system output of an incredible 680 horsepower along with a total system torque of over 752 lb/ft, the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE is clever, smart, and unprecedentedly powerful.
That power is delivered with incredible intelligence thanks to AMG Performance 4MATIC+ and rear-axle steering, as well as the AMG Ride Control suspension with Active Damping seen previously in the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. Also featured is the electric exhaust gas turbocharger, which uses F1-derived technology to cleverly combat turbo lag and deliver an uncompromised driving experience. With a 0-60 time under 3.4 seconds, a luxurious, yet performance-oriented interior, and a MBUX system tailored to the hybrid powertrain, the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE is driving into a new chapter for AMG, faster than ever before.
