It stays in the family forever.
While the automotive industry feels vast in itself, it’s actually a small world, with some influential individuals making their mark with impressive fuel-driven resumes. One of those individuals is Simon Kidston, a renowned British classic car dealer and expert who also expands his passion for all things automotive through commentating and journalism. With a list of clientele that includes names like Ralph Lauren, Jean-Pierre Slavic, and Marc Newson, one can only imagine the caliber of collector cars that Kidston deals with on a daily basis. Responsible for sourcing and brokering the sales of the most prestigious cars in the world for 35 years, including the record-breaking 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé (sold for $142 million in 2022); there’s only one car that Simon says he will never sell.
In an interview with Porsche’s Christophorus magazine, Kidston revealed that the brand holds a special place in his heart, specifically his 911 Carrera RS 2.7. It’s a cornerstone of his family history, originally purchased new by his father. The Signal Yellow Carrera RS has been a witness to unforgettable moments, from road trips on the German autobahn to other emotional milestones. After his father’s passing in 1996, the car transferred ownership to Simon, guaranteeing the legacy continued. From driving his father’s ashes to Wales to proposing to his wife, the coveted Carrera RS has always been there for Simon.
Now showing over 112,000 kilometers on the odometer, the 911 RS 2.7 remains a cherished family treasure. Simon’s connnection to the car deepened even futher when it became the first vehicle his son legally drove at 17. As it continues to accumulate miles and memories, Kidston describes his love for the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 by saying, ““This 911 is a part of my family’s history. It’s the car I grew up with,” explains Kidston. “It’s the car that gave me my appreciation of sports cars. I like to think my kids will keep it forever.” View all Porsche 911 Carrera RS examples for sale on duPont REGISTRY by clicking the link below.
