Shelby finally gets its hands on the latest Ford Mustang.
Shelby is one of the most respected names in the world of American performance, and one of the most important contributors to its legacy is its lineage of high-performance Ford Mustangs. The GT350 and GT500 are iconic Shelby Mustang nameplates, but along with them is the Super Snake, which Shelby American has now just revealed the latest version of, based on the new generation of the Ford Mustang.
Super Snake is a revered name in the Shelby lexicon, as it was first used as the name of a one-off experimental performance machine that took after the incredible power and speed of the Ford GT Mark IV that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. Today, the Super Snake name is still revered, and the new 2024 Shelby Super Snake is touted as the pinnacle of current Shelby performance, and the most thrilling Mustang in the legendary pony car’s 60-year history.
One of the biggest questions is the engine, and Shelby’s answer is a 5.0-liter V8, either with 480 horsepower, or 830+ horsepower with a supercharger. Throughout, the car’s dynamics are also enhanced to match the new Super Snake’s burgeoning power. A revised body with a wider, sportier stance comes thanks to the inclusion of an aluminum hood, carbon fiber fenders, lightweight magnesium wheels, and even a carbon fiber fixed spoiler for optimized downforce.
The new 2024 Shelby Super Snake also remains committed to being a purist’s driver’s car, with an available manual transmission even with 830+ potential horsepower. For the 2024 model year, however, Shelby American plans to only manufacture 250 examples of the car, with production set to begin this summer. With great looks, wild performance, and an all-American high-octane legacy, the new 2024 Super Snake is one of the Mustang’s greatest achievements as a car in its 60 years of history.
