McLaren W1 First Drive: Ferocious Hypercar Transcends the Track

You know things are getting serious when McLaren rolls-out the ‘1’ suffix. The origin story is, of course, the very first road car McLaren ever built, the F1. Designed by visionary Formula 1 aerodynamicist and engineer Gordon Murray, it arrived in 1992 and rendered all other supercars obsolete. The tiny, lightweight F1 embraced carbon-fibre material technology, adopted a radical centre seat driving position with two passengers set back and either side and was powered by a 6.1-litre V12 engine from BMW that might as well have been passed down directly from the Gods. Game-changer? That doesn’t even come close to describing its impact, even if at the time sales didn’t come easy… The P1 was very different. Rather than a unique side project from the Formula 1 team, it was instead a statement piece for McLaren Automotive, a new road car division still in its infancy. It arrived in 2013 and was a wild-eyed showstopper. It traded the long-legged gait and supple suspension of the F1 for a weaponized hybrid system capable of delivering 903bhp and huge blue flames from its drainpipe exhaust. In Race mode, it lowered by 2-inches and its massive concave rear wing extended into the sky. The P1 was all about aerodynamic downforce, crazed acceleration and a snorting, angry soundtrack that mixed venomous twin-turbocharged V8 with the manic whirr of electric motors. Not so much a car as a force of nature. And now there’s this: The W1. It’s a true successor to the P1 with a similar brief and, on the face of it, it evolves rather than radically reinvents McLaren’s vision for the ultimate hypercar. This is not a criticism. How could it be when the result is this dramatic and has such staggering, other-worldly potential? The W1 has 1258bhp delivered to the rear wheels. It’s capable of 0-124 mph in 5.8-seconds, the quarter mile in 9.6-seconds at 167 mph and produces 2205lbs of downforce at 174 mph. The active aerodynamics – particularly a rear wing that extends way out beyond the rear of the car – are pure performance art and deliver massive aerodynamic efficiency. The result, aside from looking extremely cool, is that the W1 is McLaren’s fastest road car around a racetrack. Ever. Their benchmark circuit is the breath-taking Handling Track at the Nardo proving ground in southern Italy, where the W1 beats their previous benchmark, the flyweight McLaren Senna, by three seconds per lap. Or “a lifetime” as they call it in racing. Maybe two lifetimes! Core to the W1’s performance is the new ‘Aerocell’ carbon fibre tub. With integrated seats and a raised footwell to allow for inboard pushrod-operated front suspension – which in turn gives air a clean path to the huge underbody diffuser – it’s light, stiff, space efficient and has been instrumental in McLaren realising a full ground-effect concept. Just like last year’s F1 cars, which were the fastest ever made. There is also an active front wing and the aforementioned complex rear wing dubbed ‘Active Long Tail’. All of which is very admirable. But the ‘anhedral’ or gullwing doors and the fantastically shirnked-wrapped feel to the minimalist, highly-focussed interior are a pretty good side effect. The W1 feels special. Those fixed seats are perhaps a shade more upright than expected, and the driving position is less obviously racecar than, for example, the Aston Martin Valhalla or Ferrari F80. However, once you’ve adjusted the pedals (they move on a slider) and the delicate, slim-rimmed and alcantara-trimmed steering wheel, there’s an overwhelming sense of purpose. The cabin is so tightly tailored and imparts a sense of lightness and agility before you so much as start the all-new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which makes 916bhp all on its own and revs to 9200rpm. Reach up to a roof-mounted control panel to find the starter button. Maybe this fighter plane trope is a little corny, but somehow you feel thrilled rather than manipulated. The W1 has a sense of humour as well as all that motorsport-derived sophistication. There’s a short delay, but when the engine does fire it’s instant – as the high-powered hybrid system negates the need for an old-school starter motor. A sharp flare of revs tells you that this engine is hyper-responsive and angry. On some deep level your brain and body have been sent all the signals required to prepare for something new and intense. Ahead of us, an empty Mugello racetrack, so press and hold the blue button next to the red starter to select Race mode. The centre display graphic shows the W1’s transformation in real time as it lowers by 37mm at the front and 17mm at the rear whilst simultaneously undocking all that active aero goodness. Race mode is not road legal and is geo-locked. You can show your friends and neighbours the aero dance, but it won’t allow you to select a gear to actually drive unless you’re at a circuit. Incidentally, the rocker switches either side of the display binnacle allow further options now: Toggle up the Handling control on the left for Race+ (for F1-spec super smooth tracks) or stick to Race for gnarlier ones. On the right toggle select ‘GP’ for sustained performance over a stint or ‘Sprint’ to unleash all 1258bhp for a time attack. There’s also a DRS and Boost function on the steering wheel. But I guarantee you won’t have the mental capacity to use them… Exit the pitlane, pin the throttle and W1 takes maybe a millisecond or two to gather its might (the gearing stretches to around 60mph in first, nearly 100mph in second, primarily to aid traction), but then lunges at the first turn with incredible ferocity. It instantly feels light, almost like inertia is no longer a thing. McLaren really does prize lightweight engineering, and at 3084lbs (dry) the W1 has a 278lbs advantage over the Ferrari F80. Plus, Ferrari uses figures for cars fitted with every single carbon fibre option. In reality, the gap is probably wider still. The impression of agility and stunning control continues as the track is unravelled at startling pace. The electric motor mounted to the side of the new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission is good for 342bhp and 324lb ft and it boosts any low rev lethargy the new flat-plane crank V8 might have (spoiler alert: It doesn’t appear to have any), so the W1 just feels massively, almost impossibly powerful at any revs. Even so, there’s real reward for wringing it out to 9200rpm and the power curve feels superheated but organic, too. In Race mode the steering – still hydraulically powered – has less assistance and it is noticeably heavier than other McLarens. However, that resistance is welcome as it gives you something to push against and imparts so much information about the front grip level. New Pirelli Trofeo RS tyres with a bigger front footprint than P1 or Senna really help. The front-end feels incredibly secure and the rear-axle follows with perfectly-aligned precision. The whole car feels super-stiff, completely locked into the surface and inspires confidence, but there’s an inherent agility and adjustability that means you’re quickly confident to push at its limits and really impose yourself on the chassis. It’s such a complex car but the driving experience is intuitive, and the driver feels a key contributor rather than just amazed (or terrified) observer, holding on for dear life. Every dynamic ingredient really is shockingly effective and yet has a subtlety and lightness of touch. From that delicious steering to the incredible brakes, the W1 just feels so mission-focussed, so hooked-up. Only the new 8-speed gearbox is a slightly disappointment. It’s fast and punchy, but after the scintillating energy of the Ferrari F80 ’box it feels competent rather than inspired. Other quibbles – it’s okay to quibble when the starting price is $2.1-million before tax and destination charge. Well, that new twin-turbocharged V8 sounds tightly wound and aggressive but if you have a P1 tucked in the garage you’ll miss the snorting, Darth Vader-style soundscape and all the drama that goes with it. Ferrari does this better, too. The F80 sounds deathly dull from the outside but is a riot of turbochargers, electric motors and all sorts of mechanical fury within the cockpit. Even so, the W1 is wildly entertaining on track, and the rear-drive configuration makes it more of a challenge and more satisfying than the F80 when chasing lap times or just sliding around for fun. In the Ferrari, you must second-guess what the front e-axle might do, whereas in the W1 it’s all on you. There are plenty of tools to help, including the ingenious Variable Drift Control, but somehow the W1 is more heroic. Or at least fools you into feeling more heroic – which is surely the point! On the road? Nimble, loaded with feel and sublime response. The ride is noticeably tougher than, say, a 750S but the control is ramped-up too, and with a bit more speed the whole car finds a delicious rhythm. Sport mode for the drivetrain brings some nice turbo whooshes and chirps, but the noise remains high-quality rather than extreme excitement. It is perhaps the one area the W1 feels just a little too tame. Of course, there’s nothing tame about the raw performance… which is genuinely shocking and literally hurts your neck muscles after a few hours. How McLaren has given the W1 such immense traction through just two driven wheels is beyond me. So, is it worthy of that ‘1’? I think so. Perhaps we won’t be talking about $25-million auction results for the W1 in 30 years from now, as we are for the F1. Perhaps it doesn’t quite have the amazing presence and jaw-dropping star quality of the simply gorgeous P1. But it is such an intense experience and the way it marries stunning track performance with delicate poise and entertainment on normal roads is something akin to magic. Maybe not ‘the one’ but definitely a searing, outrageous addition to McLaren’s fiercest family line. Just 399 W1’s will be built and they’re all sold. I’m not surprised at all. Crewe, England, is known in the automotive world as the historic home of Bentley Motors, where the ultra-luxury manufacturer crafts its highly innovative creations, and also where, for decades, Bentley has shaped its identity of timeless elegance in the form of its automobiles. This year marks the 80th anniversary of Bentley’s presence in Crewe, since the first Bentley rolled off the Pyms Lane production line in 1946. To celebrate that anniversary, Bentley gathered over 100 customer cars spanning the history of the brand at its headquarters, and also unveiled a new, unique vehicle, celebrating a milestone with its signature bespoke craftsmanship and ultra-luxurious design. In addition to the 80th anniversary, the Bentley Drivers Club also celebrated its 90th anniversary at the event, adding even more serendipity to the occasion. The new bespoke car, a Continental GTC, is finished in a bespoke Purple Supernova Ombre exterior finish, commissioned through Mulliner and developed in collaboration between Bentley's Paint Shop and the manufacturer’s CMF/Bespoke teams. 2027 Bentley Flying Spur Revives Single Headlamp Design, Unveils Most Powerful S Model Yet

The ultra-luxury sedan market is shrinking, and with Bentley discontinuing the Mulsanne and the W12 engine gone, the Flying Spur now carries the entire British marque’s sedan legacy on its own, competing in a segment being steadily absorbed by luxury SUVs. Announced earlier today, this latest iteration of the fourth-gen Flying Spur introduces the most significant exterior refresh the model has seen in years, brings back the performance-focused S variant, and adds the Naim for Mulliner audio system through the new Virtuoso Collection. The full range spans five variants: Flying Spur, Azure, S, Speed, and the flagship Mulliner. But it is the Flying Spur S that leads the new model that continues to be powered by the brand’s class-leading V8 hybird. Its High Performance Hybrid powertrain produces 671 horsepower and 686 pound-feet of torque, which Bentley claims is nearly 20 percent more than any previous Flying Spur S. From a standstill, it can hit 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and tops out at 191 mph. Bentley's Performance Active Chassis combines Active All-Wheel Drive, twin-valve dampers, torque vectoring across all axes, the 48V Bentley Dynamic Ride active anti-roll system, and, for the first time on a Flying Spur S, an electronic limited-slip differential. <- Gallery -> The most visually significant exterior change on this fourth-generation model is the move away from the pre-facelift Flying Spur’s distinctive twin oval headlamps to a single "focused eye" unit on each side, a design detail absent from a Bentley sedan since 1962 that brings the Flying Spur's front end in line with the current Continental GT coupe. Each headlamp is an oval form with a sharply defined straight upper edge and crystalline LED detailing inside the housing. The radiator grille now integrates into the front bumper, the wing vent detail has been dropped in favor of a cleaner front wing, and badging now sits further down, behind the front wheel. At the rear, revised tail lamps illuminate to display a sharper Bentley "B" graphic. A new color, Dark Teal, joins a palette now exceeding 80 finishes. Both the Azure and S models can be specified with new 22-inch wheel finishes as an optional extra. Inside, five seat styles are available, each requiring 12 hours of hand craftsmanship. The Touchscreen Remote, a removable wireless rear tablet, gives rear passengers independent control over audio, climate, and massage functions. The Virtuoso Collection's Naim for Mulliner audio system features 21 speakers derived from Focal's Grand Utopia technology, originally developed for the coachbuilt Batur at £25,000 (~$32k). The modern-day Flying Spur was introduced in 2005 and once held the title of fastest sedan in the world during the W12 era. This fourth generation makes that argument on hybrid power alone, and does so convincingly. Bentley has not released U.S. pricing for the refreshed model at the time of publication. However, the outgoing model carried a starting MSRP above $250,000, providing a reasonable baseline for where this generation is likely to land. That positions it above the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 at around $215,000 and below the Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge at approximately $380,000. For those who find SUVs too obvious and the sedan market too sparse, the new Flying Spur continues to make a strong case for itself. New Bespoke Bentley Continental GTC Revealed For International Women’s Day

In March 2025, three exceptional women in music came together at the home of Bentley Motors in Crewe, England, to design a bespoke Bentley Continental GTC. Anna Lapwood, conductor and organist, Tina Guo, cellist and composer, and Sister Bliss from the group Faithless joined Mulliner to create a bespoke Bentley that combines their ideas and inspirations in a harmonious, stunning creation with Bentley’s incredible luxury artisan craftsmanship. Now that the build has been completed, it will join Bentley’s fleet soon, before which it will debut at a female-focused cars and coffee event to be held on International Women’s Day at Bicester Motion, held in collaboration with What She Drives. Lapwood’s incredible talent in combining classical and modern music in her performance has been part of collaborations with artists like Raye, Bonobo and Benedict Cumberbatch. Guo has been nominated for a Grammy award, performing solo for the scores of films like Sherlock Holmes, Dunkirk, and Inception, and has recently performed for other projects like DUNE, DUNE 2, Gran Turismo, Top Gun: Maverick, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and even co-composed the main theme of Wonder Woman with Hans Zimmer. Sister Bliss has performed with Faithless since its founding, with a 30-year career comprised of eight albums, six top-ten singles, over 20 million records sold, and over a billion streams globally. The exterior is finished in a satin-finish Peacock paintwork, with accents in Tornado Red. Inside, Imperial Blue is paired with accents in Gold and Pillar Box Red, with contrast stitching and veneer in Copper Stone adding to the ultra-luxury design. The real stone veneer reminded Tina Guo of her recent work in tribal music. Sister Bliss contributed a soundwave design to the car, a Bentley first, which is applied to the seats and doors, the tonneau cover for the convertible top, the treadplates, and in an animated welcome lamp. Anna Lapwood’s unique contribution came in the form of Bentley’s signature air vent “organ stop” controls, which, as an organist, she particularly resonated with. In the new bespoke Continental GTC, the organ stops are finished in 24-karat gold. The finishing touch is a plaque on the center console, which features a Spotify code that can be scanned to get to a playlist curated by Lapwood, Guo, and Sister Bliss. Bentley is sharpening the sporting edge of its definitive grand tourer with the debut of the new Continental GT S and Continental GTC S, models that blend dramatic visual presence with the brand’s most advanced hybrid performance technology to date. Inspired by the limited-edition Supersports and positioned for drivers seeking heightened engagement, the fourth-generation Continental GT S models arrive as the most powerful and fastest S-badged Bentleys ever produced. They also mark a pivotal moment in Bentley’s electrified performance journey, pairing luxury craftsmanship with cutting-edge hybrid engineering. At the heart of both models is Bentley’s High Performance Hybrid powertrain, producing 680 PS and 930 Nm of torque – a substantial 130 PS and 160 Nm increase over the previous-generation Continental GT S. Fully deployed, the system delivers 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds (0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds) and a top speed of 190 mph (306 km/h), figures that place the GT S squarely among the most capable luxury grand tourers on the road. Despite its performance credentials, efficiency remains a defining element. Bentley notes that the new hybrid setup outperforms the previous-generation W12 Speed powertrain on all power, torque, and performance parameters, while also offering up to 50 miles (80 km) of pure electric driving range – a meaningful enhancement for urban or low-emissions-zone use. Acoustics play a key role in the experience. A sports exhaust system amplifies what Bentley describes as the “thrilling soundtracock” of the 4.0-liter crossplane V8, ensuring that the electrification story does not come at the expense of emotional engagement. Just as significant as the powertrain is the adoption of Bentley’s most advanced chassis technology. Previously reserved for the Continental GT Speed and GT Mulliner, the Bentley Performance Active Chassis now comes standard on the GT S. The system incorporates Active All-Wheel Drive, twin-valve dampers, torque vectoring front to rear and across axles, the 48V Bentley Dynamic Ride active anti-roll system, a new generation of ESC control software, and – for the first time on a Continental GT S – an electronic limited-slip differential and all-wheel steering. The standard 22-inch ten swept-spoke alloy wheels are finished in silver, with optional gloss black or gloss black with bright machined faces available for a more aggressive look. The result is Bentley’s most driver-focused all-wheel-drive chassis setup, designed to deliver a broader spectrum of dynamic behavior. With ESC fully engaged, the system prioritizes stability and traction. In Dynamic Mode, controlled rear-axle slip allows drivers to adjust cornering attitude with confidence. For maximum involvement, ESC can be completely disengaged, enabling experienced drivers to balance the car on throttle. Visually, the Continental GT S and GTC S make no attempt to blend in. The Blackline Specification defines the exterior, with gloss black matrix grilles, black Bentley wings and ‘BENTLEY’ lettering, and a darkened lower front spoiler creating what Bentley describes as a “purposeful, lean and potent stance.” Additional details include Beluga black mirror caps, sill extensions, rear diffuser, dark-tint LED matrix headlamps featuring Bentley’s Precision design, and darkened tail lamps and exhaust finishers. Inside, the GT S models receive a cabin treatment that mirrors their performance intent. A unique two-color upholstery split, exclusive to the S specification, is paired with fluted seat designs to create what Bentley positions as a focused, driver-centric environment. Dinamica technical fabric is applied to high-touch areas including the steering wheel, gear lever, seats, and door inserts, while Piano Black veneer comes standard, echoing the exterior Blackline theme. Buyers can also opt for high-gloss carbon fiber, full leather upholstery, and a dark tint chrome specification for interior metal brightwork. Bentley frames the new S models as a distinct expression within its broader grand touring portfolio. Bentley & Travis Pastrana Reveal new 'Supersports: FULL SEND' Video

Bentley has recently unveiled the newest chapter in a century-long legacy by unveiling the new Supersports. The most extreme and driver-focused version of the Continental yet, the new Supersports features a 657-horsepower twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine without a hybrid system, and it’s the first Continental GT ever to be rear-wheel drive. With only 500 units to be made, the model is already sold out, but that doesn’t mean Bentley is anywhere near done drumming up excitement about its driver-focused masterpiece. An undisputable legend in the world of motocross, rally racing, and stunt performance, Travis Pastrana collaborated with Bentley Motors to create what the manufacturer is calling the most dynamic film in its history: ‘Supersports: FULL SEND.’ In the film, The new Bentley Supersports is taken by Pastrana for a tour around the Bentley campus and Dream Factory in Crewe, England, but it’s not just any tour, as Pastrana delivers a performance similar to the stunt-heavy “Gymkhana” series of films. Earning the nickname “Pymkhana” after the Crewe campus’s location on Pyms Lane, the film was shown to an audience of 400 invited guests in Dubai, and it follows the final official Gymkhana film by Pastrana: ‘Aussie Shred.’ The Supersports was somewhat modified to make the stunts in the film possible, consisting of a hydraulic handbrake and the ability to power brake, both essential for drifting in the way Pastrana did in the film. The ‘FULL SEND’ car will be a part of Bentley’s 2026 events and be retained as part of the Heritage Collection in Crewe thereafter. <- Gallery -> The new Supersports is not the only star of the film, though, as Bentley gave some other icons from throughout its history appearances in the spectacle, as well. These included the Le Mans-winning Speed 8 from 2003, both generations of the Continental GT3, 1999’s Hunaudières concept, a car that was part of the line of concepts that would culminate in the Bugatti Veyron, the Pikes Peak Bentayga and Pikes Peak Continental GT, Bentley’s camouflaged future luxury urban SUV, five pre-war models, the EXP 15 concept, the final production Brooklands, which did a burnout, the two previous generations of the Supersports, and the original Supersports from 1925. Bentley Unveils New Art-Inspired Mulliner Collection

Bentley’s latest Mulliner collection is a tribute to art history. In every Mulliner-customized Bentley, there is a degree of artistry. With a virtually infinite number of possible configurations, ultra-luxurious finishes, and a wide spectrum of colors to choose from inside and out, the bespoke luxury and artisan craftsmanship that Mulliner offers, which is being featured in a rapidly growing number of Bentley commissions, turns Bentleys into art. However, Mulliner’s latest collection is one that pays homage to titans of art history: the Dutch Masters, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and Vermeer. The first car is a Continental GTC Convertible inspired by Rembrandt’s 1642 piece, The Night Watch. The exterior is Midnight Emerald, and the interior features Magnolia and Hotspur leather upholstery, inspired by Captain Frans Banninck Cocq, the central figure of the painting, and his lieutenant’s coat. Piano fascias in Cumbrian Green and gold air vent organ stops add to the opulent elegance, and opening the door reveals an animated welcome lamp of a feather. The second is inspired by Johannes Vermeer. Known for painting bright, cool interiors, Bentley evoked his work in a Continental GT with a Satin Sapphire finish and a panoramic sunroof, and an interior finished with Beluga and Ocean Blue hide with Citric Yellow accents and Klein Blue piping. A cloud formation from his 1658 painting, The Little Street, served as the inspiration for the animated welcome lamp, and other bespoke details throughout serve as nods to his incredible work. The third is inspired by Van Gogh, whose incredibly famous Starry Night served as the inspiration for a Continental GT. The colorful post-impressionist work inspired the configuration of the Continental GT with its Dark Sapphire exterior, complemented with Khamun yellow pinstriping. The swirling pattern seen in the painting is replicated in the animated welcome lamp, and the painting’s use of Indian Yellow inspired the yellow accents in the interior, with gold organ stops and walnut veneers adding to the luxurious design. Artistry has always been a part of Mulliner’s approach to automotive excellence, but with a new collection inspired by the Dutch Masters, Mulliner’s bespoke luxury and artisan craftsmanship is an elevated example of its signature approach to ultra-luxurious automotive excellence and its ability to create some of the most incredible Bentley vehicles to emerge from the historic manufacturer’s Crewe factory. A century after the original ‘Super Sports’ broke 100 mph, Bentley redefines the concept of performance luxury with its lightest and most dynamic Grand Tourer yet. Bentley Motors has unveiled the most driver-focused road car in its long and storied history: the new Bentley Continental GT Supersports. Limited to just 500 individually numbered examples, this latest evolution combines handcrafted British luxury with track-ready precision. Marking 100 years since the first Bentley ‘Super Sports’, the new Supersports reimagines the concept for the modern era with rear-wheel drive, a sub-two-tonne weight figure, and an exhilarating 666 PS (657 hp) twin-turbo V8. It is the first non-hybrid Bentley in years and the most powerful production V8 ever installed in a Crewe-built car. “The new Supersports is more than just the most driver-focused Bentley yet,” said Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors. “It signifies a return to Bentley making more extreme cars – ones that combine extraordinary breadth of ability with true driver engagement, while remaining pieces of automotive artwork unique and bespoke to each customer.” Performance with Poise The Supersports takes the Continental GT’s grand-touring DNA and channels it through a lens of motorsport engineering. Its Akrapovič titanium exhaust, carbon-ceramic brakes, and lightweight forged 22-inch Manthey Racing wheels underscore its intent. Every component serves both purpose and poise, from the largest aerodynamic splitter ever fitted to a Bentley to the carbon-fiber roof that lowers the center of gravity while saving weight. Under the hood, the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 delivers 800 Nm (590 lb-ft ) of torque, launching the Supersports from 0 to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds toward a projected 192 mph top speed. Yet the story here is not about numbers alone – it’s about feel. Engineers prioritized driver engagement, creating the first rear-wheel-drive Continental GT ever built. Design Defined by Function A dramatic new front bumper and dive planes manage airflow, while a fixed rear wing and diffuser create over 300 kg (661.39 lbsmu) more downforce than the Continental GT Speed. Bentley’s designers made each aerodynamic piece from exposed carbon fiber, proving that form can follow function while maintaining unmistakable elegance. Inside, the two-seat cabin is sculpted around a driver-centric experience. New lightweight sports seats sit lower for a race-ready position, trimmed in a blend of leather, Dinamica, and carbon fiber. Customers can commission monotone, duo-tone, or tri-tone interiors, with bespoke hides, Dark Chrome accents, and individually numbered plaques denoting each car’s exclusivity. Handcrafted Rarity As with every Bentley, the Supersports is crafted by hand in Crewe. Each example can be personalized through Mulliner, with 24 exterior paint colors, five unique Design Themes, and an array of finish options ranging from high-gloss carbon fiber to engine-turned aluminum. The debut specification, “Nightfall,” pairs Anthracite gloss paint with Camel striping and a contrasting grille “8.” Another, “Daybreak,” combines Jetstream Matte with Arctica and Portofino accents, illustrating Bentley’s dual focus on luxury and dynamism. A Legacy Reborn The Supersports name dates to 1925, when Bentley’s first ‘Super Sports’ became the marque’s original 100 mph car. Later revivals in 2009 and 2017 defined the pinnacle of performance for their generations. This new model – Project Mildred, named in honor of pioneering racer Mildred Mary Petre – continues that lineage while pushing the brand into a new era of purposeful performance. Production begins in Q4 2026, with first deliveries slated for early 2027 across key luxury markets, including the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. Review: 2026 Bentley Continental GT Speed

Thirty-five miles into an efficiency run in the 2026 Bentley Continental GT Speed, I’m getting itchy for the plug-in hybrid battery to run out of juice. Twisty roads are coming up, and I’m eager to unleash this beautiful British beast’s sound and fury. During my electric run, the car effectively has 188 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque from a motor located within the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It’ll run almost silently on electricity alone as long as I don’t go deeper than 75 percent of the way into the throttle pedal travel or hit 87 mph. I manage not to trigger either eventuality and find the motor has enough thrust to keep up with traffic and ramp up to freeway speeds. The sound-free driving seems appropriate in this ultra-luxury grand tourer, but I know there’s another, more sinister side to this plug-in hybrid. After 38 miles of driving only on electricity, the electric power finally runs out. That’s 10 miles less than the instrument cluster indicated before my run, but eight miles more than the EPA-rated 30 miles of range from the 25.9-kWh battery (80 percent of that is usable, according to Bentley). Now the fun begins. The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 fires up with a deep and determined growl as the powertrain switches from EV mode to Hybrid mode. The motor is still available to aid the engine and provide torque to fill off the line and during shifts of the smooth and quick-acting transmission. But I go a step further and switch from the base Bentley drive mode to Sport mode, which not only uses the electric motor but also overruns the engine to charge the battery. Over 55 miles in Sport mode, it adds 14 miles of charge. With the engine in the mix, the Continental GT Speed puts out numbers that easily eclipse the 650 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque of the outgoing generation’s W12 powertrain. Total output is 771 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, making this the most powerful Bentley ever. The power is generally well controlled and only hits hard when I do the same to the throttle pedal. From a stop, it can rocket the Continental GT Speed to 60 mph in a scant 3.1 seconds, about the same as the last model due to the weight added by the hybrid system. If I had the room and the will, it could keep going all the way to 208 mph. I lack both, but the power goes to the pavement efficiently thanks to the standard all-wheel-drive system, and it builds relentlessly. On gas, the EPA rates the GT Speed at 19 mpg combined, and that seems to be confirmed by the 21.5 mpg I average over 165 miles of driving with about 60 miles of electric driving. The plug-in hybrid powertrain certainly makes the GT Speed quick, but it also adds some unwelcome weight. This car weighs in at a portly 5,421 pounds, about 370 pounds more than the last-generation model with its heavy W12. That means the Continental GT Speed leans toward grand tourer rather than sports car more than ever. However, Bentley does everything it can to wrangle the weight and provide engaging handling. The suspension starts with aluminum double wishbones up front and an aluminum multi-link design in the rear. It builds on that with adaptive dampers and four-corner air springs. It also has active anti-roll bars, rear-axle steering, and an electric limited-slip differential. All that technology does its job quite well. The Continental GT Speed feels wide and planted on the road, with sharp, weighty steering that exudes stability. The active anti-roll bars create a rather flat cornering attitude, the 275/35R22 front and 305/30R22 rear Pirelli P Zero tires grip hard, and the car rotates willingly without the push I’d expect given the weight. That’s likely due to the near-perfect 49/51 front-to-rear weight balance achieved by mounting the battery in the trunk area, where it saps some of the cargo space. The e-diff, rear torque vectoring, and all-wheel-drive system put the power down efficiently mid-corner and upon corner exit, while the rear-axle steering contributes to the stability in high-speed corners and shortens the turning radius by turning up to 4.1 degrees opposite the fronts. When it comes time to arrest the GT Speed’s speed, Bentley has me covered, too, with a massive set of 16.9-inch ventilated front rotors clamped by 10-piston calipers and 15-inch rear rotors with six-piston calipers. That’s a lot of swept braking surface, but if you’re going to test out those 200-mph speeds, maybe you should spend another $18,820 for the carbon-ceramic brakes on my test vehicle that up the rotor sizes to 17.3 inches in front and 16.1 inches in the rear. The power and handling are treats, but so is the cabin. Bentley is a purveyor of some of the finest interiors on the market, and the Continental GT Speed doesn’t disappoint. It comes standard with 20-way power-adjustable front seats with quilted leather upholstery, heating, ventilation, and massage, and it sports beautiful materials lovingly hand assembled. Tech features include a digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. My tester also has a bumpin’ 2,200-watt Naim audio system with 18 speakers as part of the $50,940 First Edition specification that also includes the cool three-sided rotating center screen, front seats that automatically adjust their posture and climate settings, a host of lighting elements, and several “First Edition” insignia. The rear seat, however, remains a penalty box fit for two kids or a pair of sadomasochistic adults. The Continental GT Speed starts at $306,250, including a hefty $4,150 destination charge. However, my test car has $86,000 in options to bring the total to $392,735. Aside from the brakes, most of the options are for cosmetic features, including the First Edition spec, some black exterior trim, and a Mulliner color option. Once the price for a car reaches average home territory, option prices don’t matter as much as the heart’s desires. The change from a W12 to a plug-in hybrid V8 powertrain makes the 2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed more efficient and unlocks a quiet side, but should you get behind the wheel, be sure to experience its extroverted, sinister side as well. Bentley Teases A New Continental Supersports

Bentley brings back a legendary performance nameplate. While Bentley is known today for its grand, ultra-luxurious lineup of vehicles that combines spirited driving pleasure with opulent design, technology, and features, the historic manufacturer has roots that are deeply planted in the world of motorsport. Bentley is one of the most successful manufacturers to have ever competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and its legendary coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has recreated some of Bentley’s most legendary classic race cars for collectors to experience them in a genuine way today. Supersports is a name that has been part of the Bentley lexicon, specifically in relation to its performance cars and racing efforts, since 1925, and as 100 years has passed since then, Bentley has decided to revive the Supersports moniker with a new model that bears the name. The last Bentley Supersports model was part of a previous generation of the Continental GT, made for the 2017 model year. Powered by the iconic W12 engine, the Continental Supersports was the limited-edition flagship performance Bentley of its time.
