The New Cadillac V-ONE Concept Previews A Possible Customer Racing Hypercar

By Tyler Rampersaud –  August 14, 2026

Cadillac Reveals the New V-ONE Concept

Cadillac’s V-Series, the performance arm of the legendary American luxury manufacturer, has spent the past few years blossoming. Just over 20 years old, the V-Series started with performance versions of cars like the XLR convertible and the CTS and STS sedans, growing to include an iconic wagon, a powerful coupe, and other models over the years. This decade, the first V-Series SUV came in the form of a V-Series version of the legendary Escalade, and the V-Series also introduced an electric model with the Lyriq-V. Meanwhile, the nameplate gained an impressive racing presence with the V-Series.R, an LMDh hypercar that competes in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship, and an entry onto the Formula 1 grid this season. In both the IMSA and WEC series, the V-Series.R has earned impressive results in the endurance racing world, with 10 wins, 16 pole positions and 32 podiums for the car since it began racing in 2023. Its other achievements include the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech Championship manufacturer, team and driver titles, the 2025 Le Mans Hyperpole, and Cadillac’s first 1–2 finish in the FIA World Endurance Championship at São Paulo. <- Gallery -> Now, a new concept, unveiled at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week, envisions an expansion of Cadillac’s racing hypercar presence, and it’s called the V-ONE. About the new V-ONE concept, Dominic Najafi, Executive Design Director at Global Cadillac, said, “The Cadillac V-ONE Concept is the ultimate manifestation of a customer performance concept and is a clear sign of our ambition for the Cadillac V-Series brand in the future.” It shares a foundation with the V-Series.R, and was created in collaboration with Dallara, the chassis manufacturer for the LMDh hypercar. However, the V-ONE’s V8 hybrid powertrain features a combined 830 horsepower, a significant increase from the regulation-restricted V-Series.R’s 671. Its aerodynamics are inspired by the V-Series.R, as well, and the two share suspension components, body proportions, and other details. Inside, the racing purpose of the car is maintained, with refined details that evoke Cadillac luxury, like an elegant interface and data visualization concept, a new wheel design, and a hand-sprayed gradient paintwork from silver to deep navy that nods to the grueling hours of endurance racing. The interior also features Cadillac Collection recycled fabrics, a serialized plaque on the door, and a seat that can be customized to driver specifications. While the new Cadillac V-ONE is a concept, other manufacturers in the endurance racing hypercar arena have created customer racing cars, like Ferrari’s 499P Modificata and the upcoming McLaren MCL-HY GTR, coming alongside the MCL-HY’s entrance to the endurance racing grid. With impressive success at the top class of endurance racing, Cadillac may be looking to expand its endurance hypercar presence to include customer racing with the new V-ONE. Cadillac Formula 1 Team Turns First-Ever Laps at Silverstone

The Cadillac Formula 1® Team achieved a major landmark today as Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez completed the first-ever on-track laps for the new-for-2026 American squad. The team took to the historic Silverstone track during a pre-season promotional day, marking a monumental moment as it continues preparations for its debut F1 campaign. The laps were completed as part of a promotional filming day, serving the dual purpose of gathering footage of the car on track, and the opportunity to shake down the new machine to ensure all systems are working as expected in preparation for official pre-season testing. “Today was really an amazing day,” said Perez. “Everyone should feel incredibly proud to complete our first laps as a team. Each and every person has worked so hard to get to this moment and it was emotional to be part of motorsport history. We can, and should, all enjoy, but it’s absolutely fired me up for more. I just want to get back in and get mileage – this is just the start.” The car ran entirely in black at Silverstone, with the final 2026 Cadillac livery set to be revealed on Sunday, February 8, via a TV advertising spot during the 2026 Super Bowl, representing a bold new way for the team to connect with new audiences within the United States and beyond. Dan Towriss, CEO of Cadillac Formula 1® Team Holdings, said: “Today’s shakedown is a significant step for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team. Watching the car roll out of the garage is a moment of pride. The first laps on track mark a historic milestone; the culmination of thousands of hours of work, driven by pure passion. Graeme has done an outstanding job of assembling a team of absolute racers that have given everything to get to this moment. This is just the beginning, as our work continues at pace towards Melbourne and beyond." Team Principal Graeme Lowdon added: “Today represents countless hours of hard work, commitment and belief from everyone involved in the team. It shows the progress we’re continuing to make in a short space of time. It’s been a great opportunity for the team to gel in a live garage environment, verify car systems, and resolve any initial issues. But it’s just the beginning of the road; we now turn our attention to pre-season testing in just a few weeks’ time, which will provide even more opportunity to learn.” View All Cadillacs For Sale Images: Cadillac

Cadillac’s New F1 Team Signs American IndyCar Star Colton...

Cadillac Formula 1 Team has named Colton Herta, one of America’s most accomplished racing talents, as its first official Test Driver ahead of the brand’s debut in the 2026 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The announcement marks a major step for both Cadillac and Herta, who has long been linked with a move to the global stage of Formula 1. Herta, 25, is no stranger to international racing. The second-generation driver – son of IndyCar veteran Bryan Herta – first competed in Europe in 2015, securing four victories, six podiums, and five pole positions in the Euroformula Open Championship. He also raced in British F3, earning three podiums, including a win at Brands Hatch, before returning stateside in 2017. Since then, Herta has built a standout résumé in the NTT IndyCar Series with nine career wins, 16 pole positions, and more than 1,000 laps led across 116 starts. He remains the youngest driver ever to win an IndyCar race and pole, a record he set in 2019 at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas – also home to the F1 United States Grand Prix.  Image Source: Cadillac Beyond open-wheel racing, he has claimed multiple IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship class victories, including Rolex 24 at Daytona wins in 2019 and 2022, and an overall triumph at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2024. Transitioning into his new role under the banner of its race team TWG Motorsports, Herta joins Cadillac’s Formula 1 roster following last month’s announcement that Mercedes veteran Valtteri Bottas and ex-Red Bull Racing ace Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez will serve as the team’s first race drivers. Future details on Herta’s 2026 racing program will be shared in due course – although he has been strongly linked with a full-time campaign in the FIA Formula 2 Championship to help him learn both F1’s tracks and its similar Pirelli tires, as well as gain points for his so-called F1 ‘superlicence’. “I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Cadillac Formula 1 Team as a Test Driver,” Herta said. “This is a dream opportunity, and one I’ve been working towards for a long time. To be part of Cadillac F1’s entry at such a pivotal time is something I couldn’t pass up.  “My dream has always been to race in Formula 1, and I see this move as a huge step towards that goal. For now, my focus is on giving everything I can to Cadillac F1, helping build a competitive team.” Graeme Lowdon, Team Principal of Cadillac Formula 1 Team, added: “We are delighted to welcome Colton Herta as a Test Driver. Colton is an exceptionally talented racer with proven speed, race craft, and maturity well beyond his years.  “His experience in top-level American motorsport as part of the TWG Motorsport family makes him an ideal fit for this role, and he will bring valuable and fresh insight, perspective, and energy to our team as we continue to build for the future. “Having an American driver join an American Formula 1 team is a hugely significant moment, not only for our Team, but for American motorsport as a whole. Colton represents the passion, ambition, and competitive spirit that define the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, and we are proud to have him carry the American flag with us on the world stage.” With Cadillac entering Formula 1, and Herta taking his first official role in its paddock, the partnership reflects the growing influence of American manufacturers and teams on the sport’s global stage. Cadillac Refines F1 Ambitions, Targets 2029 with American...

Cadillac’s path to Formula 1 just became clearer, after taking a strategic twist. General Motors, under its newly created GM Performance Power Units LLC., has officially been approved by the sport’s governing body, the FIA, to become a Formula 1 power unit supplier starting in 2029. The announcement marks a major step in Cadillac’s global motorsport ambitions and positions the American luxury marque at the forefront of a potential new era in Formula 1. Originally registered to supply engines starting in 2028, Cadillac has now opted to delay its engine debut by a year, aligning with speculation that F1 may shift to simpler, naturally aspirated V8 or V10 engines in the future regulation cycle. This decision allows GM to time its entry with what could be a more emotionally resonant powertrain formula, particularly for fans of classic performance and visceral engine notes. Until then, Cadillac’s F1 team will join the grid in 2026 powered by customer Ferrari engines. The team’s operations are already ramping up across two continents: with a technical hub near the iconic Silverstone Circuit in the U.K., and a purpose-built headquarters underway in Fishers, Indiana, a stone’s throw from America’s motorsport heartland. “This approval from the FIA accelerates our mission to bring an American-built F1 power unit to the grid,” said Russ O’Blenes, CEO of GM Performance Power Units LLC. “We’re proud to represent U.S. innovation and performance at the highest level of global motorsport.” FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem noted GM’s inclusion as “a sign of Formula 1’s growing appeal among world-class manufacturers,” highlighting the move as a milestone for innovation, sustainability, and accessibility in racing. For Cadillac, a brand that’s long balanced luxury with performance, the F1 campaign represents not just a sporting challenge, but a bold cultural statement: America is going racing on its own terms, with engines built at home. Cadillac Creates New Engine Company To Achieve “Works Tea...

General Motors has confirmed that it will become a Formula 1 engine supplier “by the end of the decade” for its new Cadillac team that joins the grid next year. It today announced the formation of GM Performance Power Units LLC, which clears Cadillac’s path to becoming a “full works” team that builds its own cars and engines, like Ferrari and Mercedes. Development and testing of the team’s Formula 1 prototype engine technology is already underway, but a precise year of its introduction is yet to be revealed as it will require approval by the sport’s governing body, the FIA. Until then, Cadillac Formula 1 Team will utilize Ferrari power units, and the 2026 F1 cars will be powered by radically different engines to this year, with an almost 50/50 split between internal combustion engine and electrical power. View All Cadillacs For Sale Industry veteran Russ O’Blenes, currently director of the GM Motorsports Propulsion and Performance team, has been named CEO of the new venture. O’Blenes joins TWG Motorsports, the outfit that has been created from the formerly Andretti-fronted group to compete in F1. Mario Andretti, the last American F1 champion, will serve as a director on the team’s board. O’Blenes’ career includes powertrain development for championship racing teams and award-winning production vehicles. He also led development of the GM Performance and Racing Center in Pontiac, Michigan, and the commercialization of the brand’s eCrate initiative for performance car builders and EV enthusiasts. “Russ brings vast experience from many championship racing series, and has outstanding technical expertise, including spearheading our hybrid IMSA Cadillac and Corvette C8.R engines that are proven winners,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “In F1, we’re going to demonstrate GM’s engineering and technology capabilities on a global stage, and Russ is the right choice to lead the Power Unit team that will make it happen.” Plans are in place to open a dedicated facility for Performance Power Units LLC near GM’s Charlotte Technical Center in 2026. Since GM’s bid to join F1 was announced in January 2023, Cadillac Formula 1 has assembled an experienced team to work on aerodynamics, chassis and component development, software, and vehicle dynamics simulation. The team has operations in Fishers, Indiana; Charlotte, North Carolina; Warren, Michigan; and Silverstone, England. “I am truly excited to have the opportunity to build and lead the team that will bring an American built F1 power unit to the grid,” said O’Blenes. “GM PPU is currently ramping up its team and is hiring in all areas of the business.” Source: Cadillac

General Motors Agrees Deal To Join F1 Grid As Cadillac In...

Formula 1 has reached an agreement in principle with General Motors to bring Cadillac to the F1 grid in 2026 as its 11th team, but without the Andretti name on the entry. The move follows the rejection by F1 of GM’s original bid in January, which was partnered with the Andretti Global organization. That led to conflict between F1 and team figurehead Michael Andretti over the Andretti family taking the case to US Congress, which led to an antitrust investigation by the Department of Justice. But Michael Andretti announced he was stepping back from the team in September, allowing Group 1001 CEO Dan Towriss to take over control.  Towriss is now using TWG Global, a holding company led by businessman and philanthropist Mark Walter, as the ‘partner’ for the GM entry – effectively the same team under an Andretti-less name. Walter is the CEO of Guggenheim Capital, a diversified financial services firm with more than $340 billion in assets under management. According to Forbes, Walter is worth $6 billion. Formula 1 stated it was “pleased to move forward with this application process and will provide further updates in due course” after the entity “achieved operational milestones and made clear their commitment to brand the eleventh team GM/Cadillac, and that GM will enter as an engine supplier at a later time”. It is understood that GM will build its own F1 engine for the 2028 season, meaning it will require a customer power unit from 2026. “With Formula 1’s continued growth plans in the US, we have always believed that welcoming an impressive US brand like GM/Cadillac to the grid and GM as a future power unit supplier could bring additional value and interest to the sport,” said Greg Maffei, President and CEO of F1’s owner Liberty Media. “We credit the leadership of General Motors and their partners with significant progress in their readiness to enter Formula 1. We are excited to move forward with the application process for the GM/Cadillac team to enter the Championship in 2026.” Mark Reuss, President of General Motors, stated: “As the pinnacle of motorsports, F1 demands boundary-pushing innovation and excellence. It’s an honor for General Motors and Cadillac to join the world’s premier racing series, and we’re committed to competing with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for race fans around the world.  “This is a global stage for us to demonstrate GM’s engineering expertise and technology leadership at an entirely new level.” Towriss, who is CEO of TWG Global’s motorsport business, added: “We're excited to partner with General Motors in bringing a dynamic presence to Formula 1. Together, we’re assembling a world-class team that will embody American innovation and deliver unforgettable moments to race fans around the world.  “We appreciate the FIA and FOM’s support of our application and their recognition of the value we can bring to the championship.” On social media, Michael Andretti showed no hard feelings and wrote: “The Cadillac F1 Team is made up of a strong group of people that have worked tirelessly to build an American works team. I’m very proud of the hard work they have put in and congratulate all involved on this momentous next step. I will be cheering for you!” Mario Andretti, the last American F1 world champion in 1978, will serve as a director on the team’s board.

GM Registers as a Formula 1 Power Unit Manufacturer

General Motors Announces It Will Join F1 In 2028 As A New...

General Motors announces its role as a Formula 1 power unit manufacturer for the Andretti Cadillac F1 team starting in 2028. General Motors has made a milestone announcement in the motorsports world, confirming its entry into the high-stakes world of Formula 1 as a power unit manufacturer. Starting in the 2028 season, GM will supply the power units for the Andretti Cadillac F1 team, marking a significant achievement for both companies' racing histories. This development follows the FIA's approval of Andretti’s application to compete in the FIA Formula One World Championship. GM President Mark Reuss expressed enthusiasm about the new venture, highlighting GM's extensive engineering and racing expertise. The collaboration aims to position Andretti Cadillac as a competitive works team in the elite racing series. This move aligns with GM’s commitment to innovation, particularly in areas such as electrification, hybrid technology, sustainable fuels, and advanced internal combustion engines. GM's venture into Formula 1 is about competition and the continuation of its century-long tradition of using racing as a platform for technological development and transfer. This is evident in Cadillac's V-Series performance lineup, which celebrates its 20th anniversary and integrates track-tested advancements into production vehicles. Cadillac's recent achievements in racing, notably developing the 5.5L DOHC V-8 powertrain for the 2023 IMSA and WEC seasons, have set the stage for this new endeavor. With its successful track record, including a podium finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and sweeping championship honors in the IMSA Grand Touring Prototype season, Cadillac Racing has demonstrated its capability to excel in competitive racing environments.
