Morgan celebrates a quarter-century of partnership with BMW.
Known for its classic-inspired sports cars that combine traditional artisan craftsmanship with timeless driving thrills, Morgan Motor Company is an icon in the automotive industry. Its latest era consists of a new Plus Four model, which is powered by a BMW engine and marks the return of the Plus Four nameplate to the United States market for the first time in early 2000s. However, Morgan’s partnership with BMW has existed since the year 2000, and the historic manufacturer is celebrating a milestone 25th anniversary of the technical partnership by highlighting the many cars that emerged from it.
Morgan brought together a lineup of 14 BMW-powered Morgans for the first time, starting with the Aero 8 and culminating in Morgan’s latest models. The partnership started with the Aero 8 in 2000, which held a BMW M62 4.4-liter V8 engine under the hood. BMW V8s were the final V8s to power Morgans, with the Plus 8 GTR from 2021, an example of which is part of the gathered group.
After that BMW's six and four-cylinder engines took over with the CX platform, utilizing BMW engines to balance driving pleasure and purist enjoyment. One of those cars, powered by the 3.0-liter six-cylinder B58 engine, is the Morgan Midsummer, which, designed by Pininfarina, is a limited-production barchetta with ultra-luxury design and collector-grade potential. Now, the BMW B48 powers the new Plus Four, Morgan’s new staple sports car meant for classic-inspired style and driving joy.
A new flagship, the Morgan Supersport, features the B58 engine and is poised as the most dynamically capable Morgan yet with the new CXV platform. The 14-car lineup gathered in celebration of 25 years of partnership with BMW shows that through their collaboration, Morgan and BMW have not only evolved a cherished lineup of classic-inspired sports cars, but have also helped shape the last quarter-century of automotive history.
