The supercar world is witnessing the close of a legendary chapter. McLaren Automotive has unveiled the new McLaren 788HS, a limited-edition masterpiece serving as the definitive and final evolution of its award-winning supercar series. Succeeding the critically acclaimed 720S, 765LT, and 750S, this crowning achievement is restricted to a mere 200 vehicles globally, evenly split between coupe and spider variants.

The 788HS wears the ultra-exclusive “High Sport” designation, a rare marque reserved for only the most special expressions of McLaren’s series production. Historically, this badge has graced only two previous models: the MP4-12C HS and the MSO HS. Elevating its exclusivity, every 788HS built will be personalized through the bespoke expertise of McLaren Special Operations (MSO), ensuring clients can celebrate the lineage in a genuinely unique way.

Underneath its striking silhouette lies a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 777 bhp (788 PS) and 590 lb-ft of torque. The powerhouse revs to 8,500 rpm, delivering peak power at 7,500 rpm. Combined with a remarkably low dry weight of 2,789 pounds, the 788HS achieves a staggering power-to-weight ratio of 614 bhp-per-tonne – the highest of any model in this historic series. The resulting track-ready performance is breathtaking: zero to 60 mph in a blistering 2.8 seconds, zero to 124 mph in 7.0 seconds, and a top speed of 205 mph.

Aesthetically assertive, the 788HS is shaped by the most advanced aerodynamic package ever applied to this platform. The all-carbon fiber aero concept includes a multi-zone front splitter, an S-duct hood, a raised active rear spoiler, and a Formula 1-inspired rear diffuser.

Together with a louvred under-wing panel, these sculpted elements increase downforce by 10 percent over the 765LT, promising uncompromised vehicle dynamics and balance. For the ultimate visual statement of lightweight luxury, clients can opt for full Visual Carbon Fibre bodywork that encompasses every exterior panel. Gloss black accents, including a roof scoop on the coupe derivatives, add to the aggressive profile.

Track precision seamlessly meets road engagement through the Proactive Chassis Control III linked-hydraulic suspension system, featuring bespoke tuning and a front ride height lowered by 5 millimeters compared to the 750S. Braking relies on McLaren Senna-derived carbon ceramic discs, equipped with black six-piston forged aluminum monoblock front calipers and integrated cooling.

Elevating its performance pedigree, the 788HS is the first in this supercar series to feature a center-lock wheel mechanism, paired with new Super Lightweight Forged Alloy wheels. A unique engine mount calibration ensures an unfiltered connection between the driver and the powertrain without sacrificing long-distance usability.

Inside the driver-centric cabin, a lightweight carbon fiber center console anchors the space. Bespoke HS branding is woven throughout, featuring a unique perforation pattern on the upholstery and a specialized dedication plaque. Enhancing the sensory experience is a quad-exit titanium exhaust system. Paired with carefully engineered induction and exhaust sound symposer technologies, it immerses occupants in the unmistakable V8 soundtrack with heightened intensity.

Henrik Wilhelmsmeyer, chief commercial officer at McLaren Automotive, encapsulates the vehicle’s ethos: “The new McLaren 788HS has been designed and engineered with a singular focus: to deliver a visceral experience and captivating drive through its precise balance of performance, sound, dynamism, and individuality. It represents the ultimate expression of our supercar series that began with the 720S and becomes only the third McLaren to wear our HS designation – a fitting finale for a much-loved and critically acclaimed car.”

As the curtain falls on this celebrated lineage, the 788HS stands as the ultimate testament to McLaren’s unrivaled ability to fuse bespoke opulence with track-conquering performance at the highest echelon of the exotic car market.
